The Design Society: Sessions 01, Money Talks

The Design Society recently held its first informal gathering for members to catch-up and also to get insights from guest speakers on design related topics.  ‘TDS Sessions 01′ drew a packed attendance of over 100 people at Night & Day, and the topic of the evening was “Money Talks” – an apt follow-up to some of the hottest questions raised at the Design Literacy Forum in January this year.

Our guest speakers were Lee Wai Leng of FLEECIRCUS, Victor Lim and Khoh Wan Chin of TRINE DESIGN ASSOCIATES and Chris Lee of ASYLUM.  Some specific points of discussion include their approaches for sustaining business through the years, balancing creativity with bread-and-butter issues, and handling clients with budgets issues. Although no actual figures were revealed, the speakers did share their best-practices as well as some unorthodox ‘formulas’ for determining their professional fees.

The Society is highly encouraged by the positive turn out, and is making plans to hold roughly three such sessions a year.
